Faranak Farhang is an Iranian-American designer educated in the United States and raised in Iran. On one hand, studying Master's of Designed Objects at the Art Institute of Chicago enriched her with a broad knowledge of industrial production. And on the other hand, growing up in Isfahan, a city known for its rich art and handicrafts has made her practice narrative and illustrative. Questioning how to link the mass industrial production and tradition, as a way to hold on to the narrative’s meaning in objects, forms her recent bodies of work. Her work celebrates and explores the hybrid of culture, craft, and technology in everyday objects, with a sensitivity toward the inherent and intrinsic value in the way objects are conceptualized, materialized, perceived, and used.
